Building a Realistic Event Timeline
Plan backwards from the event date, then add the buffer you will wish you had.
A good timeline is not a wish list. It is a tool that tells you what to do this week and what can safely wait.
Work backwards
Put the event date at the end and mark the points that depend on each other: invitations before RSVPs, venue before décor, final headcount before final payments.
Add buffer on purpose
Add a cushion of a week or two before any date that involves other people. Responses are slower, and revisions are more common, than anyone expects.
Review it regularly
Check the timeline weekly. If a task slips, adjust the tasks that depend on it right away, rather than discovering the problem later.
